Freedom Card Office
The Freedom Card is the official Robert Morris University photo identification card. All members of the University community - students, faculty and staff - are required to have one. Freedom cards are used to access online accounts at the RMU website, purchase meals, borrow books at the library, go to the health club, and get into campus events and more.
The Freedom Card Office is open from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. It is located in the lower level of Revere Center.
The Freedom Card is your key to campus dining. Meal plans and Colonial Cash are stored on the Freedom Card and can be used at any of the dining locations. A valid Freedom Card must be presented to access your funds. Cards that are damaged or unreadable will not be accepted.
Your meal plan money must be used by the end of each semester. Meal plans do not carry over from semester to semester. If you need additional funds, Colonial Cash can be added at any time.
Colonial Cash can be added to your Freedom Card and used for purchases at campus dining locations, RMU Campus Barnes & Noble Bookstore and vending machines with a card swipe. Colonial Cash can also be used to make copies at the copiers located in the library, Wheatley, Hale and School of Business. Colonial Cash does not expire at end of each semester. It will be available as long as you are a student at RMU. Colonial Cash is not refundable.
Robert Morris University accepts colonial cash deposits by cash, check, money order or credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express). Colonial Cash deposits may be made to the Office of Student Financial Services by phone (412-397-6260), or online via the RMU website.
Funds added before 6:45 a.m. will be available at 7:00 a.m.
Funds added before 10:45 a.m. will be available at 11:00 a.m.
Funds added before 3:45 p.m. will be available at 4:00 p.m.
Add to Your Colonial Cash
Several weeks prior to the beginning of a semester, students with a projected credit balance (as determined by Student Financial Services) will have up to $2,000 placed on their Freedom Card as a bookstore voucher for exclusive use at the Barnes & Noble Campus Bookstore in Moon Township. These funds can be used to purchase books, supplies, RMU apparel, etc with your excess financial aid.
After the add/drop period, the bookstore vouchers will be cleared off of the Freedom Card and any remaining funds will be credited back to the student account and a refund will be processed according to the policies and procedures of the Student Financial Services Department.

ONLINE ACCOUNT ACCESS:
Because the Freedom Card is unique to every cardholder, the 16-digit number given is part of an access code needed to enter the Sentry Secured Services area of the RMU website.
Using the last 10 digits of the Freedom Card, along with the Social Security number and birth date, online accounts can be activated at the Robert Morris University website. Simply go to Students, and then in the Sentry Secured Services box, click “New User? Activate Your Account” Once this initial step is complete, a user name and password can be created, so it is not necessary to memorize the Freedom Card Number.
Once a user name and password are created, students can start using the E-Mail address and account Robert Morris University has provided for them. This address will be a primary means of communication and should be checked regularly. Students will also have immediate access to the secured area of the website. Access to these pages will allow students to view their grades and obtain other information specific to them. Things such as financial information, official schedules, registering, and paying for classes will are available through this secured area.
You must present a valid Freedom Card in order to borrow books and research materials from the University’s library in Moon Township. The magnetic stripe of your card is encoded with information required to borrow books from the library. Cards that are damaged or unreadable will not be accepted.
Everyone in the Robert Morris University community who has an active Freedom Card is eligible to be a member of the Robert Morris University Fitness Center. This membership is free to those students who complete the fitness waiver. There is a small monthly fee charged to faculty and staff. Once the waiver is completed you will be able to use your Freedom Card to access the Fitness Center. If the card is lost or damaged, access to the club will not be granted.
Obtaining a Freedom Card
All students, faculty and staff are required to have a Freedom Card. The first Freedom Card issued is free of charge. Visit the Freedom Card Office in Revere Center to receive your card. You will be required to show your drivers license, passport or another form of photo identification.
Freezing a Freedom Card
It is possible to freeze an account so that no other person can use the Freedom Card in the event the card has been misplaced. Please contact the Freedom Card Office immediately to ask to have a card frozen. If the card is found, the account can be reactivated.
Replacing a Freedom Card
In the event a card has been misplaced and cannot be found, it can be permanently deactivated and a replacement will be issued. Due to the expense of producing the Freedom Card, a $10 fee will be charged for a replacement card. This fee applies whether the card has been lost, stolen or damaged, and the fee is non-refundable. If a lost card is found, it should be returned to the Freedom Card Office.
